Abstract
"El Martillo" is a neighborhood of the city of Manicaragua, rural settlement of the pre-mountainous area in the central province of Cuba. The neighborhood is formed by 46 houses and 147 residents and it is affected systematically by hurricanes and floods that cause destruction to the houses and serious damages to the inhabitants. The community has an strong local identity and local traditions of construction practices that can be used to transform the current situation with the social participation and endogenous ways. The project offers integral solutions in order to produce significant changes in the neighborhood, based on local focuses, appropriate technologies and concepts of sustainable construction. The result is a resilient community that can be used as benchmark for Cuba and other countries in development.
